So, this was bugging me and I want to see if anyone else has any feelings on this as well.

Why does Cyclops suck? And I don't mean the mythical Greek monster here. I mean the X-Man, Scott Summers. I can't put my finger on it but he's been around for 40+ years is it now? And has routinely been about as interesting as watching paint dry.

You would think at some point someone would have said "Hey! Let's make this guy interesting..." but they don't seem to get that far.

I can't quite put my finger on it as to WHY though. He's had who knows how many comic appearances, not to mention how many alternate realities they have spun out, been in 3 X-Men movies, 3 cartoons and he's just routinely been two dimensional and boring.

He has some stiff competition to live up to admittedly with the likes of Wolverine, Gambit, Rogue, Nightcrawler, Beast and almost any other X-Man you can name but he always just came off as so boring to me, and I've actively looked for comics where I said "Oooo Cyclops was bad ass in this one..." but to no avail.

This all came to roll around in my head when I read that Cyclops fan were agitated he was killed off in X-Men 3. The fact he died didn't bug me much, it felt extraneous but they wanted to showcase more varied mutants that much is clear. What surprised me was that he had fans.

Don't get me wrong, I won't say Cyclops is a useless member of the X-Teams. I get why he is there, I get why he is the leader. I don't get why he seems to get laid more than anyone in that mansion though.

Is his appeal that he IS boring and has remained so for decades? Is the wooden, straight-arrow approach to everything what people like?

I have tried and cannot find the answers.

So I am putting it to you, the people of DA: Defend Cyclops or denounce Cyclops, the choice is yours.
